Details Ink Recognized In National Magazine for Original Invitation Design With more than twenty-five years of free-lance graphic arts experience under her belt, the creative force behind Details, Ink tends to take recognition for her design work personally. “I know it sounds corny, but when Greetings, Etc. (Magazine) called asking for some of my original invitations to be featured in an article about in-house custom design, I was both flattered...and floored“ remarks Cinda Baxter, owner of Details Ink in Minneapolis. “There are a lot of incredibly talented designers out there, predominantly on the east and west coasts, and a couple of power hitters in Dallas. To be plucked right out of the blue was incredibly flattering and not just a little bit humbling.” In an article about custom designs created by stores excelling in in-house design and production, Greetings, Etc. editors selected their favorite of the Details designs as one incorporating an actual leaf and several layers of textured papers on a pocket-fold invitation. It included a buff colored vellum insert to protect the leaf and matching response set. One of the requests this particular client brought to the process was a request that the finished product be an example of ‘thinking out of the box.’ No bordered cards or pre-formatted invitations were allowed. “That’s actually the rule, not the exception around here,” responds Baxter. “You can always spot our regulars; they bring in the infotime, place, purpose, etc.then just turn it over to us without direction or questions, knowing that the options we put in front of them will not only be a good fit personality-wise, but will be within the budget they desire. We design for them, after all...not for us.” Greetings, Etc. Magazine is published six times a year, bimonthly and is tailored for the stationery, greeting card and invitation industries. It is the official publication of the Greeting Card Association and is published by Edgell Communications. |
