Cinda Baxter of Details Ink Takes the National Stage for Retailer Seminar in New York

September 2, 2006 - Seen as a rising star in the indepent retailer industry, Cinda Baxter most recently shared her expertise as a panelist for “Driving Dollars to Your Doorstep,” a New York International Gift Fair seminar for independent retailers nationwide.

Baxter was selected as a panelist in part because of her involvement with the Gift and Home Trade Association (GHTA)—the gift and home industry’s professional trade association. Ms. Baxter is a member of the GHTA’s Retailer Advisory Board, which was created to support and cultivate the industry’s independent retailers.

With the presence of so many big box stores, it’s important for independent retailers to support one another,” says Baxter. “Involvement in peer groups like the GHTA or the Retailer Advisory Board is crucial to the success of any modern retailer.”

As a panelist and moderator for “Driving Dollars,” Baxter focused on several specific technology-based strategies included in a 170-point list compiled by the RAB, given to forum attendees. Her fellow panelists focused on areas of strength in their own operations, ranging from better ways to buy at market, to buy throughout the year, and to turn a store into a special event centerpiece.

Of the four panelists, Baxter, Melissa Haberstroh (The Burlap Horse, Boerne TX) and Sonia Mott (Motif, Milwaukee WI) were asked to participate based on their success with a similar forum in Chicago this past January. For that event, they spoke before an audience of sales agency and manufacturer personnel seeking advice on how to better support the independent retailer. A fourth presenter, Sherrie Ness (Farmers Daughter, Valley Center CA) joined the trio in New York, having herself spoken during the GHTA national conference last November.

“Driving Dollars to Your Doorstep” was sponsored by the GHTA, OneCoast, Wellspring and Demdaco. For more information about the GHTA, please visit www.giftandhome.org.
